What is compulsory motor third party liability insurance?
This insurance ensures that damage to third party health or property caused by an accident for which you were responsible is covered.
This insurance has been provided for in the Law on Compulsory Third Party Motor Liability Insurance of Vehicle Owners and Possessors the Republic of Lithuania, which entered into force on 1 January 2002. The driver of a vehicle stopped by a road police patrol must also show together with other documents a valid certificate of insurance confirming that he has a respective policy.

What are the insurance amounts?
The restitution for the damage, caused to the property, is made in the amount of up to 500.000 EUR (1.726.400 LTL), whereas for the damage, caused to the person, - up to 2.500.000 EUR (8.632.000 LTL) (up to 2.500 EUR (8.632 LTL) whereof can be allocated to make restitution for non-property damage).
Where the coverage is effective?
The policies of compulsory third party motor liability insurance provide for insurance coverage and are valid not only in Lithuania, but also in any and all states of the Common European Economic Space (Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Great Britain, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Iceland, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, France, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Germany) as well as Switzerland.
International motor insurance certificates (Green Cards), issued under conventional contracts of compulsory third party motor liability insurance, also provide for the insurance coverage in other states within the Green Card System (Ireland, Albania, Andorra, Austria, Byelorussia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Great Britain, Estonia, Greece, Iran, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Israel, Cyprus, Croatia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Morocco, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, France, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Germany).
